It’s hard to even know where to start about my girl Rochelle. She was one of my fourth graders in the first class I taught. I met her on the first day of school and she brought me a small jar of sand art that she’d made for me, which I actually still have. 🙂 (It sits with my spices in my spice rack and always makes me smile.) Through a series of events, I became friends with Rochelle’s family and Glen and I “adopted” she and her three brothers. I would tell their mom that I hoped she didn’t mind me claiming her four kids as my own. Rochelle loved helping me with my classroom and was my sidekick/assistant for several summers when I taught summer school. She and her brothers have spent time with us during summer vacation and they were the subjects of my first photo sessions, way before I started my photography business. This is one of pictures I took of them to give their mom for Christmas. 🙂
Rochelle moved to Northwest Arkansas a couple of years ago and has been going to NWACC, taking the classes necessary to get into nursing school. Getting into the nursing school is VERY competitive. This year they had 477 people apply and she was one of the 70 accepted and will start classes in August. On top of school, she has worked two jobs and is also a volunteer for CASA, which is a Court Appointed Special Advocate. The CASA volunteers are assigned to work with abused and/or neglected children who are in the foster care system. They advocate for them and speak for the best interests of those children in court. She has such a loving, giving and generous heart and I could not be more proud of her.
She had her husband recently celebrated their third wedding anniversary. They eloped and didn’t have wedding pictures, so I was thrilled when she asked me to take some pictures of them together.
Rochelle is not just my former student, she is my friend and I am so very thankful for her.
